Education:
• Associate degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant from an accredited program.
• Assumes responsibility for ongoing continuing education and professional development
• Must maintain valid state Occupational Therapy Assistant licensure in Mississippi
Job Summary:
• Provides occupational therapy services to patients and initiates referrals when appropriate and in accordance with Occupational Therapy Department Procedures.
• Assists the Occupational Therapist in identifying a target list, short/long term goals, and treatment plans.
• Conducts both individual and group treatment as assigned by the Occupational Therapist and outlined in treatment plan that includes but is not limited to, areas ADL, functional mobility, ROM, strength coordination, cognitive/perceptual remediation, and functional maintenance.
• Assists in the selection of occupational therapy techniques/media and in the sequence of activities, adapts techniques/media as indicated by patient performance and following consultation with the Occupational Therapist. No major modification to the treatment plan is made without prior consultation with the Occupational Therapist.
• Maintains acceptable resident care ratios as determined by the Occupational Therapist.
• Monitors patient’s response to intervention and modifies treatment as indicated to attain goals in accordance with plan and physician orders.
• Must be able to work independently with periodic (daily or less) support and directions.
• Basic knowledge of computers, typing abilities and willingness to utilize computers daily
• Documents all results of patient’s assessment, treatment, follow-up, and termination of services.
• Adapts treatment to meet the individual needs of the patient.
• Provides, recommends, fabricates adaptive devices, or other equipment. Trains patients, family, and staff in the use or application of orthotics and prosthetics.
• Participates in discharge planning. • Supervises Rehabilitation Technicians, students and volunteers as needed.
Ability to work in multiple settings including: Inpatient Rehab, Skilled Care, Long Term Care, and Outpatient
